For those of you who do not know me, I served Eden as an Interim Pastor in 2005. I am glad to see many of you from that time. I also grieve with you those members who have passed from this life, and who are no longer with us.
This church, this congregation, has changed and is changing since I first knew you ten years ago. You have begun reaching out to the community. There is a focus on mission, on becoming a safe space in Jefferson Park. There are new ministries too, Eden Open, Family Programming, events for children. You have website, a Facebook page, an electronic newsletter. The building is filling with groups from the community also. And yet even in the midst of this activity I know that you are searching, searching still for ways to grow the church.

Jacki joined the Eden staff in the summer of 2014 after falling in love with the congregation during a consulting project earlier in the year. A native of North Dakota, she has lived in Chicago with her partner Carla since 1990. Jacki brings a deep love for the local church, a natural respect for small churches, and an enthusiasm about the spiritual practices of being community. A recent favorite quote is “One of the soul’s greatest longings is for a sense of rootedness” (Simone Weil). She is convinced that people today hunger for the experiences of belonging and roots which the local church can provide… if it faithfully lives out Christ’s grace for today’s needs. At Eden, she is leading the way in discerning new neighborhood relationships, outreach ministries and adult spiritual education. Ordained in the American Baptist Churches – USA, she is a certified life coach and author of the forthcoming book Forgive for Life: Finding the Way Forward.
